Queensland Games
48hr GMC Pool (feel free to add/join)
The LBT have sent over an updated version of their game for you to try. Grab it from drop.io/laserbackturtles
Zip files as uploaded to the judgement machines - we all waitng for the teams to let us know what extra installs needed - screen grabs collecting over on the GAMES page here
And here they are - well most of them - a quick cheap n dirty upload thanks to chen the magnificent: - still need the teams to send us info re extra file installs … coming …. most of the following downloads NEED something to play - uploading these as i download and so checking as i go … hopefully the teams will give us the extra info …
The winners: Sif90: Melonaut http://team.sif90.com/
melonaut.rar (80MB), melonaut_noaudio.rar (25MB) - REQUIRES Two xBox360 Controllers to play
And it was all made easier with HAAF Game Engine (HGE) available from http://hge.relishgames.com/.
The 360 .ccgame can be run on a 360 by having an XNA Creators Club Membership on the 360, running XNA Game Studio Connect on the console then just double click the .ccgame to open it and it will unpack and deploy the game to the 360 - good to go. Windows build (will require XNA) soon.
you will need the VC++ 2008 redistributable installed, and UE probably wont work even then ... but it will - we waiting on next upload PS. Melon Defense had no artists before you ask![]()
Best Game - Melonaut by SIF 90
Fantastic on all criteria - very well scoped for the time, really original use of seasons, and fun to play
[images coming momentarily - this server can be soooo erratic]
————————————————————–
Honourable Mentions went to the following which were all about the same score:
Echidna: Whirlpool Wipeout - great use of co-op play
Preemptive Revenge: Summerland Harvest - strong game mechanics and strategy
Lurkers Craft: Summertime Getaway - excellent graphics and use of 3 key words
Laserback Turtles: Melon-choly - solid gameplay and elegant design
Other Awards:
Best Pitch (even though they didn’t finish) - Duct Tape
Most Tenacity (continuing even when half the team left) - Distortion
Most Ambitious (trying to do an adventure game in 48 hours is a big call!) - Portal Marmosets
No Sleep awards:
Kyle - Equidna
Josh - Pseudorandom
Andrew - Black Wolf
Tim - Preemptive Revenge
Ash - Preemptive Revenge
Most Noodles Consumed (25+) - Eddie (Friction Studios)
Altho’ we do have to note that giving someone who had gotten up to 25 PLUS noodle consumption a noodle pot of jelly beans is probably really cruel …
Once again, thank you to our magnificent judges:: John Passfield, Gordon Moyes, Jackie Turnure and Yahtzee for their sterling work and most excellent support of the mayhem that is the 48 hour game making challenge!
Other thanks go to our fabulous supporters and aiders and abetters: CI Precincts for use of the space and support team (Lubi and Jacina), ACID for use of our fabulous techie, Chen (who came with the magnificent Becky and Katy), KGUV who provided the sausages and rolls for the BBQ, QLD Games whose lovely DVD show reel soon became somewhat mesmeric as it rolled around and around for 48 hours, Australian Gamer whose presence in the ‘press room’ and coverage gave us all that extra filip (as well as showing us that actually, you can make a game in 10 minutes), Souri of Tsumea whose presentation of the three keywords was so brilliant we completley forgot to film the team reactions because we were all so engrossed, Wollongong SCSSE who paid for two teams (Black Wolf and Friction) to come up and stay in Brisbane for the event and of course, our regular gameOn supporters: QANTM Alumni, Griffith QCA, KGUV and the whole network of the Brisbane Chapter of the IGDA without whose encouragement and enthusiasm over on the igda forums, the event would never have come to pass!
And finally, BIG LOVE to the teams - you ARE the heroes and heroines!
Now to sort out photos and images and … oh … the games!
Sif90 with their game Melonauts! Congrats guys!
